I’m looking into the car rental market and here’s an interesting finding.

Here's a predictable but interesting COVID effect: Hertz rental car utilization rates decreased from 79% to 52% YOY. But the more interesting piece to me is that this happened while they shed about 200,000 vehicles from their fleet. Huge hit.

Venezuela and Runescape

I have not seen it because it is behind a paywall, but I’m interested in seeing this documentary about Venezuelans surviving hyperinflation by mining gold on Runescape. Venezuela has such an interesting economic history that I’m afraid we’re ignoring. And handling an economic crisis through a digital economy shows that Venezuela has an interesting economic future.

Poop and Progress

If you’re looking for a good writer on economic history, you need to read Jason Crawford at Roots of Progress. Last week he published this article about how technological progress means people in rich countries don’t have to see, touch, or smell excrement.
